Relationship Skills Class

Get the skills to build the relationships you want!
For over 15 years, NW Network staff and community volunteers offered this dynamic seven-week series to LGBTQ people, their families, and allies. Rooted in the cultural and community experiences of a diverse team of advocates, RSC was developed through conversations with survivors in NW Network support groups. It was designed to center the lives of Bi people and to be meaningful for folks across the spectrums of sexual orientation and gender identity. The series shared practical skills and creative strategies to help people build loving and equitable relationships of all kinds—sweeties, partners, friends, chosen family, family of origin, poly, monogamous, kinky, and more!

Topics include clarifying values, power and liberation analysis, expectations and negotiation skills, accountability, boundaries, conflict strategies and strengthening support networks. Classes should be open to all!

The NW Network’s RSC Curriculum Is Evidence-Based. The NWN partnered with an outside evaluator to conduct a comprehensive evaluation using a rigorous quasi-experimental, waitlist-control design to examine the impact and implementation of RSC. Using interviews, observations, and pre/post-test surveys, the mixed method evaluation gathered data on a range of outcomes across individual, relationship, and community levels.

The evaluation showed that compared to people on the waitlist, RSC participants demonstrated substantial gains in knowledge and skills at individual and relationship levels. For example, RSC participants described regularly using RSC skills in their relationships and showed greater comfort than the control group in using these skills.

RSC participants reported greater comfort using relationship skills with their intimate partner while control group participants reported less comfort over time.[1]
